Job Description

Are you passionate about the future of learning and work?

The Work-Based Learning Alliance (WBLA) is looking for a School Programs Manager to support the delivery of their virtual programs that connect high schoolers with industry, supporting career exploration and critical skill development.

This role is remote, with candidates ideally located in the Greater Washington DC area.

Applicants should note that this role has the potential to extend beyond the initial 6-month engagement and transition to a permanent full-time role.

Position Summary

WBLA seeks a mission-driven hands-on Program Manager to lead student-facing support and operational delivery of our in-school virtual work-based learning programs, while also building strong partnerships with school and industry stakeholders. This role guides learners from enrollment through program completion, ensures a smooth and engaging student experience, analyzes program data for continuous improvement, and helps maintain strong relationships with partners across the region.

The Program Manager will frequently support schools and learners virtually but may also visit Washington, DC–area school sites as needed for recruitment, presentations, relationship management, and program implementation.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational capacity, comfort with technology, and a passion for supporting diverse learners.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Learner Support & Engagement (50–60%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students throughout their virtual program experience.
  • Provide timely guidance on navigating WBLA platforms, meeting expectations, deliverables, schedules, and technical challenges.
  • Identify individual student needs and risks; problem-solve proactively and connect students with relevant resources.
  • Offer empathetic but professional support to help learners overcome personal, technological, or academic barriers.
  • Coordinate and track learner engagement, attendance, progress, and deliverables using WBLA systems.
  • Facilitate connections between students and WBLA advisors and industry mentors.

2. Partnership & School Engagement (15–20%)

  • Build strong working relationships with school-based staff, counselors, teachers, and administrators for in-school programs.
  • Support student recruitment, information sessions, and onboarding activities.
  • Collaborate with school partners to ensure alignment with school-day schedules, expectations, and student support structures.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, school staff, WBLA program staff, and industry partners.
  • Represent WBLA at school events or industry partner meetings (virtually or in-person as needed).

3. Program Operations, Quality, & Event Coordination (10–15%)

  • Support the delivery of engaging program activities and virtual events, including kickoffs, live student sessions, and showcases.
  • Foster cohort community by facilitating activities that promote peer-to-peer learning, networking, and shared reflection.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges during synchronous events and support participants with asynchronous submission workflows.
  • Help maintain program documentation, templates, and communications.

4. Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement (10–15%)

  • Collect, track, and analyze key program metrics including attendance, deliverables, engagement, progress, and completion.
  • Maintain accurate databases and administrative systems.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external reports for stakeholders, including WBLA advisors and school partners.
  • Use data insights to inform program enhancements and identify systemic barriers impacting student success.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in teaching, workforce development, program management, youth development, or related fields.
  • Experience supporting or teaching diverse populations, including students facing systemic barriers.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic support while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Experience with virtual or hybrid program delivery.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, reporting, and use of administrative systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a remote team.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring high school students, especially in public school settings.
  • Experience in career development, workforce readiness programming, or industry-aligned learning pathways.
  • Comfort with light technical troubleshooting and digital learning tools.
  • Experience supporting or managing partnerships.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape the future of work-based learning for students across the country.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven environment that values innovation, equity, and student impact.
  • Flexibility as part of a fully remote team with periodic in-person engagement as needed.
  • Potential to transition into a long-term, expanded role as WBLA grows.
